We are an advanced society…or so we say. I find it ironic though that an “advanced” society would overlook such a powerful practice as ritual.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am well aware we have many a daily ritual, like our daily commutes, daily meals, and even something as simple as the daily brushing of our teeth. But these are not the kind of rituals I am talking about. I am talking about the kind of rituals that invite the juicy meaning back into life – the kind that orient us to our inner realm.
I’ve been fortunate to travel a lot in my lifetime and have visited places like Bali, India, and several parts of Africa where the cultures are steeped in such daily rituals. It’s been an honor to witness such traditions, and I’ve seen first hand the kind of fulfillment and richness it brings back into a person’s life and into their communities too.
So, why don’t we have more ritual like this in our lives?
Well, I think a lot of us think such a daily ritual has to be a complex, elaborate ceremony that takes a ton of time and preparation.
FALSE!
Let’s not let true ritual fall to the way side because we feed ourselves some false logic that it’s just too hard to do or we’re too busy. You’re going to be missing out on one of the sweetest parts of life if you swallow that nonsense.
In today’s episode we look at four power-packed benefits of having a daily ritual, and then I give you a personal example of one of my favorite daily rituals I created…and this ritual stars none other than mother nature herself.
Go ahead and see how easy this can be. Check it out!

P.S. Let’s start a revolution and bring back meaningful ritual. Share this post with other women you think might dig this idea.

Thank you for this great re-connect/reminder about daily rituals. When I lived in Monterey, the ocean was part of my daily ritual. Over the last few years in New Zealand, the river near my house filled that role.
The ocean is a great metaphor, but even when I lived in New York connecting with nature was possible. I took the tram over to Roosevelt island and climbed on the rocks close to the water and
was able to get into the same place by changing my perspective.
Ritual can happen anywhere–its taking that time for yourself that is so important and your video was a much needed reminder.
Grateful for your sharing! Love from down under!
Yeah Marti! Glad you were able to reconnect with your capacity to bring ritual into your life. You are absolutely right. It can happen anywhere and largely relies on a perspective shift inside to bring us back to a place of reverence. I am so glad you’ve taken this knowing with you around the world, and so glad to have you as part of the tribe. Thank you for sharing. Love and blessings, Amy
I loved this post. It was wonderful to be at the ocean with you. I could feel the healing energy. I go for a walk early most mornings in Central Park. I breathe the sweet air and feel gratitude for the oasis in the middle of NYC. Early in the morning it’s quiet except for the sounds of the birds and waterfalls. I even recorded the sounds (on my iPhone) so when I need it I just replay it and I am back in the park. Being out in nature keeps me sane.
Hi Martha! So glad to hear you liked this episode! I love your idea about recording sounds from your morning ritual and having them with you wherever you go. At a moment’s notice, you can be back in that place of sacred connection with the world. What a great idea! Sending blessings to you and hope this finds you keeping up with your rituals as often as you can. Love, Amy
