One of my all time favorite quotes from any song is from Bob Marley, “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.”
Word.
But how do you do that? How do you free your mind from the never-ending self-critic? Or from the constant stream of thoughts that are somehow out of alignment with the life you want to create for yourself? Maybe it’s the procrastinating thoughts, the doubting thoughts, the fearful thoughts, and so on. There are soooo many mental prisons we can create for ourselves.
The more I dig into my warrior quest to be more vulnerable, the more that I see that my mightiest strength, courage, and perseverance is needed to fight the battle in my own mind.
I’ve got to stop being tempted by my own mental prisons.
If I’m honest, this has not been an easy practice. The good ones never are. Freeing my mind is requiring a DAILY practice from me like nothing else has before. Or perhaps, I am just finally ready to take on the fullness of my mission and clear out all the self-sabotage obstacles I’ve been putting in my way all these years.
Whatever the reason, things just got real y’all. I feel like I’m having to re-program my brain from scratch and download a whole new operating system — one that runs on self-acceptance, self-love, and compassion.
So that I don’t get totally overwhelmed, I’ve been seeking out inspirational quotes from those who’ve been on the path before AND I’ve been using each quote to ask myself a certain question….a question that will spur me to put that wisdom into action.
This practice (I call it “quotes and contemplations”) is helping ground this big expansive time of growth for me, and I wanted to share some of my recent inquiries with you.
A short video, but an impactful one. Take a look.

The devil or the angel (however you want to look at it!) is in the details. Making big sweeping changes in your life sometimes happens slow and steady by the small choices you make in the now – the choices that allow you to adopt a new way of thinking that truly supports you from the inside out.
Perhaps, it’s not as glamorous or outwardly driven a practice as some others, and no one’s going to pat you on the back simply because you chose a healthier, more self-affirming thought. So, it can be a lonely hill to climb at times, and often you’ll have to be your own cheerleader. But no other “battle” will give you as much bang for your buck as the one against the mental prisons that YOU create.
You change your thoughts. You change your world. Period.
Write in the comments below and let me know what mental prison you plan to break out of today?
Big glorious love to you all,
Amy
