We all have a story. It’s the way we talk about our pasts, and it’s one of the major ways we make sense of who we are in this world.

If you’re not careful, the way you talk or think about your story may really hamper your progress on your journey. Leveraged properly though, your “story” can be a catalyst for your own future growth.

I’ll admit, I haven’t always been so skillful at leveraging my story to support my own growth. It’s very tempting to get stuck in the juicy, dramatic parts and stay there for a while.

And sometimes, we may even use our stories as a way to connect with others and commiserate in our misery together. Looking back, I see how this was one of the ways we stay small and hide from our full potentials.

The new paradigm we are in holds infinite potential for greater integration and love than we perhaps ever thought possible. But it will demand we pack light and let go of the old ways of perceiving that might weigh us down. Want to know how to do that?

If you’re ready to do an extreme makeover on your story in four clear steps, then press play on the video below.

Ok, now it’s time to activate what you’ve learned. Take out your journal, and write down your thoughts on these inquiries:

1. Jot down briefly the story you most find yourself telling about yourself to others. Just write it down from a “gut response” place in you. Don’t edit in any way. Just see what comes out.

2. Now review what you wrote. Are there places where it can be re-framed to support your future growth? What legacies do you want to highlight? What parts do you want to let go of? How can the suffering be reworked to highlight the birth that is coming to fruition in you? How can you use your story to connect more deeply to others with compassion? Any other upgrades you can make?
