“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” -Helen Keller
What better person to speak such words of wisdom than Helen Keller, who overcame the adversity of being blind and deaf to become one of the 20th century’s leading humanitarians?
Certainly, we all won’t have to deal with the specific challenges that Helen had to face, but we most definitely know what it’s like to suffer.Whether it’s the suffering of a broken heart, a lost job, or learning to deal with a difficult disease, we all have our stories of suffering.
And what’s more, in today’s world, we seem to glorify and sensationalize fear, pain, and suffering in our media, making it very difficult for us to remember that suffering is not a given, it’s a choice.
Bold words? Perhaps. But check out the next Living in Your Potential video below to see for yourself how suffering is different than pain and how you do have a choice in whether or not you choose to identify with the suffering in your story.

This week’s work was perfectly on time. I have just united with 4 of my biological siblings through FB. It has been painful and joyful at the same time. The process started happening on Saturday. By Monday, I was wiped out. I finally watched the video for Week 4 that same morning and it was just what one of my new siblings and I had been talking about. How do we remove the pain of our past from the present?
After the video, I did the morning meditation. I was so strongly drawn to the idea of orienting toward nourishment. I decided to do just that. It allowed me to concentrate and feel the ways in which these new relationships could offer me food, could fill me up, and could offer new loves into my life. I shared this with my one of my new sisters and together this is how we have decided to continue this new journey.
Thank you, Amy!
LeTonia: Your sharing continues to inspire. Thank you! What big changes you are experiencing, and how wonderful that you’re able to share this with your new family. The relationships you create are entirely up to all of you. Starting with an orientation towards nourishment can be so healing, especially if there’s a past riddled with pain. I am glad to hear you are continuing with the meditation too. Change is progressive, and you’ll get stronger and stronger with each day. Thank you for always sharing your wisdom. Keep us posted on how it’s going. Blessings, Amy
