I’ve often been accused of being a Polly-anna, or “the super optimist.” I’m always ready and willing to look at the bright side of things no matter how dark it gets. And in many ways, this focus on staying hopeful and positive has served me very well.
But recently, I’ve discovered another kind of power – the power of hopelessness.
You heard me right. There is something undeniably powerful about giving up all hope. If you’re saying “huh?” in your mind right now, I feel ya. I was skeptical at first too. How could giving up hope bring anything good?
The warrior in me says “you must always fight the good fight and never give up hope, no matter what!”
But lately, this old battle cry hasn’t been holding up. In fact, I’m starting to see how it actually may be hindering me in moving forward on my path. And I don’t think I’m alone in falling for this pattern. In fact, I think this may be one of the most common self-sabotaging techniques out there.
To understand what I mean about the power of hopelessness, we need to take a closer look at what we mean when we say “hope.” Take a look below. (And for you un-dying optimists out there, be prepared – this video might rock your whole world view, for the better!)

So, is it really possible? Is it really possible for us to step beyond the bounds of hope and therefore fear too? Yes, it is.
But it all comes down to choice. And not the kind of choice you make just once, but a choice you make again and again from moment to moment. We must learn to rest in the state of groundlessness and hopelessness and orient towards our higher self, our spirit, the universe – or whatever you want to call it.
It’s in this place that TRUE freedom is born.
Does this challenge your world view or ruffle the feathers of your inner optimist? Or does it open you up to a whole new realm of possibilities? Let me know in the comments.
Big love everyone,
Amy

Rainbows! What a special gift from beyond! Thank you Jane for sharing and staying open to your process as it unfolds. It’s not always easy, but keep on keeping on my sister! Love, Amy
