Does the title of this post feel familiar to you? I think if we’re honest with ourselves, most of us have had some version of this thought in our lifetimes.

We’re taught certain rules when we’re young about how to behave and even how to think. Then, we’re promptly taught if you follow these rules, then all will work out ok.

Well, of course life is never that straight forward.

You could do all the “right” things to get into that school; get hired for that new job; or find that perfect relationship. But somehow, even though you followed the rules to a “t,” it all blows up in your face.

What happened?

The answer lies in our unconscious. But, the tricky thing about our unconscious is that we don’t know what we don’t know. So where do we begin if we want to turn this pattern around?

First things first, we need to understand our motivations for following the rules. Then, we need to understand how following the rules might actually be inhibiting our growth process. And finally, we need to take some initial steps at crafting a new paradigm of thought that will support a more authentic you, not just a version of you that’s operating on automatic pilot following an arbitrary set of rules.

If you’re curious about this, but need a tutorial on how to get started, check out this video. It’s time for us to shed some light on what’s happening beneath the surface.

Every journey starts with awareness first, and that’s what this episode has been about today.

Be kind and compassionate with yourself as you uncover more about this pattern. It won’t just change overnight.

The reality is we’ve all been given programming in how to act and think in this world. Unpacking that programming and seeing if it’s actually a good fit for your truth is a big part of what this whole life is about. No one is exempt.

DIG DEEPER: What parts of yourself have you been avoiding, suppressing, or denying by following the rules? If you dare, share in the comments below. Let’s make up our own rules to live by 😉

Big love y’all,
