Happy New Year!

New year. New beginnings. Rather than give you another cliche blog post on making new year’s resolutions that most of us struggle to keep anyway, I thought I’d go to the heart of the matter.

Creativity.

No matter what we want to have happen for us in the new year, it’s going to require us to create….create a new situation, a new attitude, a new job, a new possibility, etc.

In order for us to optimize our creative juices, we first have to do a little myth-busting about creativity:

1. Creativity is not an indulgence. Our modern day culture that prioritizes efficiency over all else relegates creativity to some luxury or indulgence we do in our spare time, for example in a hobby activity. WRONG.

Creativity is the essence of who we are. It’s the very life blood from where our ideas, energy, and wisdom flow. We need to remember that and to remember that every opportunity, whether it’s work or play, and in even the most mundane or routine areas of our life, there is always room for creativity to express itself.

2.  Creativity is not a characteristic or personality trait that only a few are lucky to have.

We all have creativity. It’s not some special power doled out to the chosen few. For many of us, it may get suppressed or we may have never learned how to nourish it, but I assure you, we all have it.

So, today we’re going to look at five, perhaps surprising, ways you can boost your brain’s creativity.

Now, I should clarify that I’m talking about boosting your creativity in the day-to-day. Sure, we’d all like to take a luxurious vacation somewhere and explore our inner artist and take a month off work, but that might not be such a viable option for most of us.

Good news is that it doesn’t have to be that complicated. Little things being shifted in the normal routine of your life can make quite an opening for the creative juices to start flowing through. Take a look.

I hope you enjoyed that, and now I leave you with a quote from the renowned Pablo Picasso:

Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not.
